Our occupational therapists help individuals get back to doing daily tasks on their own. This could include simple tasks like loading the dishwasher or doing laundry. After surgery these tasks could be difficult or dangerous, if not done a certain way to ensure your safety. We want to make sure individuals can get back to normalcy, even if it is with a little modification in daily tasks. The occupational therapist will make sure patients can safely perform daily tasks and in the mean time, our services take care of those tasks during recovery.
Physical therapy after surgery can be a hassle due to of driving restrictions or bad weather. I can see why you need to take care of yourself after a surgery. An aide that will look after you after the surgery is a great idea to be safe at home too. My sister would love knowing this as she looks into a cosmetic surgery that she wants to get.
Thanks for pointing out how occupational therapists can help patients get back to their normal routines such as loading the dishwasher safely. My dad is set to go to a hip replacement surgery next month, and I know he wants to get back to his feet as soon as possible. I will be happy to tell him that working with a therapist after surgery will help him get his strength back to do his daily routines.
It’s good to know more about recovering after surgery. My mom may need surgery on her foot, so this will be good. Taking her to an occupational therapist makes a lot of sense!
